I’m devastated: A thunderstorm destroyed the whole exhibition “art in the river” in Schleiden. The sculptures are washed away or lying under water.

« This is my birthday. A day like a gemini. In the morning thunderstorms and now I sit in the garden with the young people from the “Culture Shock”. And the bad news come like the good ones. At least on my birthday I could do without the bad ones. Daily Painting about geminis
A horrible thunderstorm washed away the exhibition “Kunst im Fluss” in Schleiden. I’m horrified. So much work, so much hope, so much passion, destroyed in some minutes. There was a metres high wave of water and that even washed away steel sculptures of hundreds of kilos. I feel with the people who lost their existence in the highwater. It was “only” art, but I fought so much, gave so much. Daily Painting about misery »

Eifel Flood Disaster

The flood disaster on 14–15 July 2021 destroyed almost the entirety of Maf Räderscheidt’s life’s work when a flood wave from the Urft, approximately 3.50 high, surged through her studio on the Plan in Gemünd and swept thousands of paintings, watercolours, drawings, etchings and everything else towards Lake Urft. Consequently, almost every image posted before that date has, sadly, been destroyed and is no longer available. The few that were saved are completely ruined and contaminated by water, mud and the many unspeakable things that were washed down to Gemünd from thousands of garden sheds, cars, heating oil tanks and five sewage treatment works.
