After many years “Art in the River” takes place 2013 and it’s more than the copy of a good idea. Many good artist, some of them known worldwide, come in the Eifel to make art in the river Olef.
Opening will be Sunday, May, 12th. For six weeks the little town Schleiden will be dominated by contemporary art. Sculptures, video or environments, first class art from some of the best personalities in contemporary art will be prepared for the audience.
Thomas Baumgärtel, Ulrike Rosenbach, Rolf Hinterecker, Rochus Aust, Holger Hagedorn – a list of participating artist, a lot of big museums would be proud of. They all and a lot more come in the wonderful landscape of the Nordeifel, known as a cultural desert. Invited by the artist Maf Räderscheidt, who is situated in Schleiden. She started six weeks ago to realize this exhibition. And without the spontaneous idea of the artists to join the event, it wouldn’t have been possible.
From a special interest for the artists it is to work with water. In some parts of the worlds there is war about water, and the European Community plans to privatize the water business. For example the artist Martin Kätelhön answers with his art project “river gold” where he puts life veins of gold in the river.
Some of the five schools that are in Schleiden will join the event. Some young artist, that Maf Räderscheidt discovered during her latest event “They are young and they need the money”, will have some artwork too.
Artists, that accepted the invitation to Schleiden are beside the above mentioned: Christine Santema, Martin Kätelhön, Karla Götze, Peter Sußner, Thomas Kleevisch, Maggie Töpfer, Alex Rix, Jörg Strawe und die jungen Wilden: Sophie Urban, Viktoria Abramova, Sabine Alberts und Robin Hoffmann.
