Mobiles for the Artgenossen in Lindlar

The hotel “Artgenossen” (fellow species) in Lindlar is well known for their enthusiastic attitude towards art. Each month they ask another artist to exhibit his work and to develop a three-course dinner that takes place on the last Friday of the month. Last month it was my turn.

The hotel is a former agricultural school with many remainders of its history. Have a look for yourself. It still has the charm of the old school and so I had the idea to develop an environment for this event. I constructed three different mobiles out of old tools from an abandoned farm and disks I drew scenes of the country life – all you have to do to gain some food. One of them stays now in the hotel and it looks wonderful there

Cribs in Bad Münstereifel

In Bad Münstereifel is during the advent time a crib presentation. I was asked to participate as the artist I am. So, I did it. I thought how Maria and Joseph would be today. Being very poor perhaps they would be on dole today and would get the official support money, we in Germany call “Hartz 4”. And I made them members of one of the poorest peoples we have, I made them a desperate artist couple and made a crisis crib, because artists always have crisis! He looks at the blank canvas and Maria looks out of the window searching for a solution out of their situation. They’ve got no house, they had to settle in an old night console I had in the cellar.  On the roof the washing is drying and in the cellar are staples of unsold paintings.

This crib is living and will survive a lot of changes in the next weeks.

For a fashion shop I designed a teenager crib (Maria and Joseph were very young) and a migration crib (they were strangers too) Pictures will follow in the next days, be prepared

A Painting a Day keeps the Doctor away – A Daily Painting for the twittering community

A Painting a Day keeps the Doctor away

An everyday picture for the twittering world

The venerable institution of the art exhibition – with the help of the Internet Maf Räderscheidt turns it into an authentic art project about the position of the painting in the modern media. Since March this spring the artist creates every day a painting as a comment on the events under the motto “A Painting a Day keeps the doctor away”, posts it on the Internet and shares it via the Twitter micro blog service. The opening of the exhibition of these works will take place on the 12th of September, in the Junckerhaus in Simonskall near Hürtgenwald. However, no single curator or the artist will meet the choice, but the “Follower” from @mafraederscheid on Twitter. So this exhibition will be the first one which is curated worldwide via World Wide Web, explore new ways of global networking and worldwide art mediation and make Twitter itself the content of an art project.

While the world of the web designers still considers what could be meant with the term „web 2.0, under the title “Twitter” a phenomenon has established, that was recently thought to be impossible

The principle is easy. With 140 signs users answer the question: „What are you doing?“ And while some users are still defeated by the thought, the world would be interested in the fact that they use just the toilet, Twitter has become a political issue which is credited to be able to bring down a government.

The uniqueness of Twitter is that you’re not in an anonymous internet or operate in closed forums, but moves publicly in a well-defined user group of personally known individuals, which is actually just interested in the same themes than you. In this way worldwide interest guided networks develop that exchange information in their respective subject. This can be the fur care of thoroughbred rabbits, these can be radical political theses, in this case it is Visual Arts.

Because the followers of Maf Räderscheidt on Twitter are mainly professional artists, gallery owners or art enthusiasts on their own, it is an interesting experiment to watch the reaction of the global art scene from Alaska to Australia, from the Caucasus to China to the offer to curate an exhibition in a small, but historically significant museum in the Eifel.

In the Junckerhaus in Simonskall after the First World War the Cologne artists who were called later “the Progressives” met with the philosophers married couple Jatho to create in discussions out of the global disaster and their war experiences a new image of man that later found its artistic precipitation in the pictures of the painters gathered there: F.W.Seiwert, Heinrich Hoerle, the couple Räderscheidt-Hegemann. At this place the now developing fresh image of the society in the internet reality should also find its artistic translation – in the Daily Paintings of Maf Räderscheidt.

After the worldwide first television gallery on the Cologne local broadcast Center TV in 2007 this is already the second work of Maf Räderscheidt in which she analizes the position of painting in modern media like television or Internet.
